Caressed by azure waters and threaded with palm tree-lined boulevards is the picturesque coastal city of Brindisi in southern Italy. Bathed in authentic Italian ambience, visitors and locals alike amble through its winding streets and soak up the warmth of its sun-drenched squares, while local fishermen present their fresh catch in trattorias, drawing the attention of passers by.

Meanwhile, in the busy heart of London’s Chelsea, Oliver Brown crafts traditional garments with a contemporary edge. This spring, the brand is preparing its clothing to echo the rise in temperature by drawing inspiration from sunny Brindisi. Channelling the captivating cityscape and culture of southern Italy, the spring/summer 2024 collection is the perfect homage to the well-travelled fellow.

‘The inspiration behind our spring/summer 2024 collection has come from the idea of a gentleman abroad – someone who travels the globe for business and pleasure,’ says Kristian Robson, the owner of Oliver Brown. ‘With this in mind, the tailoring in the new collection has a modern and easy feel, with unconstructed styles in breathable fabrics. It’s about uncomplicated styling options, a symphony of textures, shapes and details that I hope will define your summer wardrobe. Textured linen, puckered cotton, and mock leno weaves give texture to the pieces, while fresco introduces a cool and airy element.’

Inspired by Toni Servillo’s portrayal of Jep Gambardella in The Great Beauty, each item is designed to seamlessly transition from a balmy European holiday to an informal business lunch. A prime example of this easy-going versatility is the unstructured seersucker suit.

Making a stylish return, seersucker stripes offer an effortless blend of sophistication and laid-back charm. The lightweight fabric drapes casually, perfect for warm summer days while the navy and white stripes evoke a sense of nautical flair. Available in a deconstructed suit jacket, trousers, and (for a sportier look) shorts, whether you’re strolling along the seaside promenade or attending a garden party, the design exudes understated style and refined comfort.

Oliver Brown Mayfair double-breasted suit in oatmeal

Another noteworthy piece is the Mayfair double-breasted suit in oatmeal. A favourite of Robson’s, it brings to Oliver Brown a new, modern cut of suit, crafted from 230gsm 100 per cent Irish linen. Featuring an unlined structure with an extra soft canvas, soft shoulder pads and a natural sleeve crown with a moderate slope, the cloth not only offers a marvellous drape, but is a perfect choice for summer tailoring, guaranteeing breathability and comfort, even in the heat.

Reflecting on the ingenuity of the suit, Robson concludes: ‘The Mayfair brings together comfort and style, making it a must-have for those seeking sophistication in their warm- weather wardrobes.’

Whether you’re jetting off to bask in the seasonal warmth abroad or eagerly anticipating a glimpse of that rare English sun, Oliver Brown’s spring/summer 2024 collection offers you a fashionable-yet-relaxed passport to the Mediterranean and trusts that you’ll delight in wearing these pieces all summer long.
