Luxury Italian marque Maserati unveils its latest fully electric offering in style

Motoring 15 May 2024

Established in 1980, the trademark “Made in Italy” has been used to indicate products of quality, style and heritage. As of 2024, 15 April has become National Made in Italy Day, marking the birthday of polymath Leonardo da Vinci. So it was without coincidence that luxury Italian marque Maserati chose this day to unveil its “electrifying future”: the GranCabrio Folgore. One of a handful of fully electric four-seat convertibles, the GranCabrio is both visually striking with a sleek, elegant design, and performance driven, incorporating Formula E-inspired technology. Alongside the GranTurismo Folgore, the brand’s first fully electric icon, and the Grecale Folgore, its 100 per cent electric SUV, it completes Maserati’s current fully electric offering.

Maserati Made in Thunder was presented in Rimini, the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley, to a collection of motoring journalists and enthusiasts. The event saw a performance from Italian musician Dardust as well as appearances from actor Matilda De Angelis and astrophysicist Edwige Pezzulli. It concluded with speeches from Maserati head of design, Klaus Busse, and CEO Davide Grasso.

For its dynamic debut, the GranCabrio Folgore sported an exclusive Liquid Rose Gold colour, paired with unashamedly stylish Denim and Ice interiors with contrasting stitching to showcase the capabilities of Maserati’s Fuoriserie customisation programme. The car is a true fusion of luxury and innovation, with unique features such as the unmistakable Folgore sound and incredible tech specs derived from Formula E cars, which were shared with Maserati for mass production. It features the same tri-motor setup as the GranTurismo Folgore along with a 92.5kWh battery that provides 280 miles of range.

Maserati describes the Folgore as the ‘voice of the marque’s future, a thunder that infuses new energy and ignites the future of the brand’. Aside from the GranCabrio, Maserati also confirmed the all-electric MC20 will arrive in 2025 as it sets its sights on becoming a completely electric brand.
