Waves of change: Bremont Waterman Apex

Bremont’s technical new dive watch gives back to the oceans by raising funds for non-profit Bimini Shark Lab

For decades, dive watches have been essential tools in underwater exploration, which, in turn, has played a crucial role in advancing our understanding of marine environments and the increasingly urgent need to protect the species that exist in them. With a new limited edition, the Waterman Apex, Bremont has teamed up with leading sportsman and “waterman” Laird Hamilton for a timepiece that pays tribute to the oceans by helping give back.

Hamilton, one of the best big-wave surfers in the world and an all-around marine adventurer, is the perfect candidate to put the hardy new model through its paces. Its technical credentials include an automatic helium escape valve and unidirectional rotating bezel and, despite its clear caseback, it offers an impressive water resistance of 500 metres. These features come without compromising on style, with the watch decked out with sporty light-blue highlights across the bezel and GMT hand, as well as the matching rubber strap.

Limited to 250 pieces, a percentage of the sales of the watch will go towards the essential work of the Bimini Shark Lab. This non-profit based out of the US and Bahamas focuses on improving our knowledge of marine animals, especially sharks and rays, using these findings to enhance conservation and awareness. A nod to the organisation can also subtly be found both front and back on the watch, from shark fins incorporated into the wave pattern on the dial to the movement’s rotor, which sees the motif replicated in blue.
