As November approaches, we gather to remember the sacrifice and service of those who have defended the freedoms and rights of our nation. And as we pay tribute to this bravery, so too is it important to continue to champion and support the members of our current Armed Forces, especially as they make the often-challenging transition to civilian life.

It is a cause that has been at the heart of the Royal British Legion since it was founded in 1921, and the charity continues to make a deep impact on the lives of veterans. Watchmaker AVI-8 is paying tribute to its work with two special editions in homage to the organisation’s pioneering founders, Sir Thomas Frederick Lister and Field Marshal Earl Haig. Each is limited to 1,000 pieces, with every timepiece sold helping the Royal British Legion continue its vital work.

The Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph brings vintage-inspired design with a contemporary touch. The former comes through on the classic cathedral-style hands, and ‘onion’-style crown that echoes those seen on trench watches from the early 20th century. Powered by a precise Japanese meca-quartz movement, it incorporates subtle nods to its inspiration in the form of a poppy on the chronograph seconds hands, as well two further examples of the motif topping the crown.

The Flyboy Royal British Legion Chairman’s Meca-Quartz similarly blends modern and traditional details, with an aviation-inspired look. Hallmarks of the style include the large Arabic numerals, with lume adding to its legibility. Here, the poppy instead takes pride of place in the six o’clock position, as well as encased in epoxy on the crown.
