In the black: Longines Heritage Classic

Longines revisits its heritage-inspired sector dial watch with a contemporary new colour scheme

The ‘sector dial’, loosely defined by its concentric outer rings and clear central space, evokes a refined vintage appeal that makes it a favourite for heritage-inspired designs. Among the best iterations is the Longines Heritage Classic, which simultaneously pays tribute to its rich watchmaking history while bringing a contemporary edge.

This popular model first released in 2019, originally with a pared-back silver colour scheme, has been given a makeover in bold black. The hue complements the graphic lines of the design, with each zone featuring a different finish, from the matt centre to the circular-brushed anthracite hour circle. It is completed with sophisticated details, including slim, contrasting silver hour and minute hands and a delicately ridged small second hand.

Similar attention has been paid to the strap. The vintage, 1930s aesthetic comes through in the classic cognac-coloured leather option, with a ‘pull-up’ effect that varies its colour with use, making it unique to its wearer. Meanwhile a metal mesh strap takes inspiration from a design from the 1940s, with a ‘grain of rice’ pattern that is both stylish and comfortable.

While its aesthetic nods strongly to Longines past, inside it makes the most of Longines innovative modern watchmaking. This comes in the form of the L893, a movement developed exclusively for Longines’ Heritage line. It comes equipped with a silicon balance spring for enhanced accuracy and is offered with a five-year guarantee as a testament to its precision timekeeping.
