Gregory Swartberg of Cru Wine investment managers says no: ‘A lot of customers buy five cases of a wine and, after five years, sell three for usually a similar amount, so they drink two cases for free.’ Some surprising factors can influence performance – for example, Barolo is on the up, partially due to an international row about aeroplanes.
