Brummell feasts at home with: Dishoom

Everyone’s favourite Bombay restaurant finally launches an out-of-this-world vegan version of its famed naan roll as a kit for nationwide delivery

Food and Drink 10 Dec 2020

The Background
Paying homage to the old Irani cafes of Bombay, Dishoom has delighted diners with its stylish authentic fare since opening its first restaurant in Covent Garden in 2010. In response to polite requests from diners who avoid pork and dairy, Dishoom has created the moreish Vegan Sausage Naan Roll with masala chai, available as a kit for an authentic and out-of-this-world Bombay experience at home. Kits can be delivered to friends and family on the same day for distanced celebrations and, for every kit sent out, Dishoom donate a meal to Magic Breakfast, their long-term charity partner that provides free, nutritious meals to children in schools in the UK who might otherwise go hungry.

The Meal Kit
4 (fat) vegan sausages made from beetroot mushroom and onion developed by friend of Dishoom and chef extraordinaire Neil Rankin.

3 vegan dough balls

Dishoom’s signature tomato-chilli jam

Vegan cream cheese

Loose-leaf Darjeeling tea, chai spices and fresh ginger slices for brewing Chef Naved’s Masala Chai (just add a plant-based milk of your choice)

How many does it feed?

Packaging

Prep
As beautiful as the Dishoom menus, the instructions with this kit are comprehensive, with details of how to prep the naans, sausages and tea perfectly for a truly authentic experience.

The food
Beautifully packaged, with easy-to-follow instructions, this kit is a real treat from start to finish and can leave even the most reluctant of cooks with a real sense of achievement. The failsafe naan instructions mean they come out fresh and fluffy from the oven, and brilliantly, the kit comes with three dough balls, so if you mess one up you get a second chance. We were lucky enough to get three pretty decent naans out of it, and used the spare to scoop up the last of the chilli jam. The stars of the show are Neil Rankin’s sausages. Unexpectedly bulbous and bursting with flavour, they are the best vegan sausages we’ve tasted (Brummell’s companion even said they are the best sausages of any kind they have tasted), and teamed with the creamy vegan cream cheese, citrusy coriander and spicy tomato-chilli jam it was so tasty we did not want it to end.

The price
The kit is available for £16 plus delivery.

The verdict
What a treat! We’ve had some of our most memorable meals at Dishoom and this one, despite being devoured in our dining room, was no exception. Full of flavour, moreish and warming, this is a kit we will order again and again.
