Omega teams up with Swiss sailing team Alinghi for a seaworthy new Speedmaster

Following on from the release of a new Seamaster marking Omega’s return as the Official Timekeeper of the America’s Cup, the watchmaker has unveiled its latest timepiece celebrating its ongoing partnership with Swiss sailing team Alinghi.

The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi takes its inspiration from the team’s high-tech TF35 catamaran. The watch is particularly suited to the sport thanks in part to the lightweight and thin properties of the Calibre 1865. The movement is intricately decorated, featuring a honeycomb pattern on the mainplate and barrel bridge that is similar to the interior of the Alinghi boat’s carbon hull, achieved using laser ablation. This same technique has also been employed to decorate the other bridges with a black carbon pattern.

The same attention to detail has been applied to the overall design of the watch, decked out in Alinghi’s sleek black-and-red colour scheme, including a contemporary 44.25mm case crafted from hardwearing black zirconium oxide ceramic. With precision on the water in mind, the dial includes a four or five-minute tactical time display at 3 o’clock. Meanwhile the traditional subdial at 6 o’clock has been replaced with a disc featuring the Alinghi logo, which rotates on the watch as the chronograph function is used.
