For those in the know, the Mandrake Hotel is one of the most lavish spots in town, and since opening in September 2017 it has quickly gained a reputation for its eclectic interior and love of the arts.

Every week, the hotel welcomes a new creative visionary through its doors for its Artist in Residence series, with past exhibitors including tattoo artist Thomas Hooper and photographer and video artist Iris Brosch. From Tuesday 2 October, prolific artist and designer Harif Guzman will be taking the helm, exhibiting exclusively curated works created in the hotel, while showcasing video art produced in the streets of New York in various spaces throughout his residency.

Guzman started out as an artist in New York and now works internationally in fashion creating murals, contemporary street art and film photography. In addition to creating his own street-wear brand Haculla (haculla.com), his work has been in the permanent collection at MoMA since July, and he has participated in numerous brand collaborations including Lane Crawford, Italian Vogue, 55 DSL and Soho Arts Club.

Highlights of Guzman’s residency include video art projections in the hotel’s lobby and courtyard areas, live artist action where he will paint in the window of The Mandrake’s Artist-In-Residency studio, and a ‘tote’ takeover, which will see him create bespoke tote bags for the hotel’s guests.
