In challenging times, people tend to turn to the things that bring them comfort. So, it’s little wonder that over the past couple of years we have seen a resurgence in all things nostalgic, whether that relates to comfort food, listening to your favourite songs from your youth or rewatching the TV show you’ve seen a hundred times. For many, this desire for comfort and simple pleasures has also meant physically moving back to the places we once called home.

Heritage British clothier Joshua Ellis was founded in Yorkshire in 1767, and more than 250 years on, the mill remains in the same area, still producing exceptional-quality fabrics. For its spring/summer 2022 capsule collection, Joshua Ellis has turned to themes of home and nostalgia with a campaign shoot inspired by the quintessential British holiday by the sea.

The archives of Joshua Ellis hold more than 30,000 fabrics stretching back decades, and the company produces more than 200 cashmere scarves of different weights and styles – as well as a range of cashmere and wool throws for the home. Still, the new season sees a whole new collection of wearable pieces, including a company first: ‘For this spring/summer 22 collection, we have further developed our lighter weight capabilities with our new Whitby cashmere scarf in 27 colours,’ commented Oliver Platts, managing director of Joshua Ellis. ‘In addition to this we also have our small but impactful selection of merino plaids and Escorial plains, which are fast becoming a spring/summer 22 staple. Finally, we are delighted to showcase our first printed cashmere stole. Our hope is to have a focused spring collection that allows customers to have simple staples for their wardrobe, investment pieces that will be a wardrobe pull-out for years to come.’

With centuries of experience, quality is the cornerstone of Joshua Ellis, with each piece crafted in England and going through at least 23 processes throughout production to ensure high standards. Its unisex scarves and stoles are brought up to date with bold and unexpected colours and patterns that hark back to tradition but with a modern twist.

The spring/summer collection highlights include the lightweight Whitby scarf in a luxurious cashmere yarn, made from either plain or herringbone woven structures. The Whitby stole comes in muted colours inspired by the unique ecology of the British coastline, including sandy yellow, sage green and shades of stone. Capturing the pastel hues of the seaside is the Merino collection, which uses extra fine merino wool, with tonal plain colours, madras checks and classic plaids and semi-plaid patterns.

Joshua Ellis’ first printed cashmere stoles are a triumph with their vibrant colours and contemporary tartan print. They complement the Escorial stoles, which are woven from a rare and luxurious wool from New Zealand, renowned for its warmth and performance. So, whether your summer holidays will take you to the unpredictable climates of the great British seaside or to more exotic locations, you can rely on a Joshua Ellis scarf to see you from chilly plane ride to windy walks on the beach. These are items of pure comfort and joy, designed to last a lifetime.
