Breitling’s Superocean Heritage has always stood apart from the typical dive watch. First launched in 1957, during the early heyday of recreational diving, the Superocean range debuted with two groundbreaking models: a time-only reference and a rugged chronograph (the Ref. 807) for professional divers, both offering an impressive 200m water resistance. Now, for the first time since 2017, the watch has received an update, combining its mid-century DNA with contemporary upgrades.
For 2025, the Superocean Heritage introduces a sharper, more refined execution of the original design. As Breitling CEO Georges Kern explains: ‘The Superocean Heritage is our most elegant sea watch, and this update is all about refinement. Every detail has been perfected, but the spirit stays the same. It’s about style at sea.’
The new range spans several case sizes, starting with a 42mm chronograph model, powered by the Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01. The automatic editions follow in 44mm, 42mm and 40mm formats and debut Breitling’s new B31 Manufacture movement – its first exclusive three-hand calibre, designed and developed entirely in-house. The 36mm version, meanwhile, features the Calibre 10. All models are COSC-certified, with the B31 offering a power reserve of approximately 78 hours.
Aesthetically, the Superocean Heritage remains unmistakably true to its roots. The iconic spear-and-arrow hands are still present, alongside a palette of black, blue and green dial options. Matching ceramic bezels have been added for improved scratch resistance, while the bracelets – available in mesh-rubber or mesh-metal – have been redesigned for a slimmer, more integrated fit, complete with folding clasps for a smooth profile.

Further refinements include tone-on-tone subdials and a discreet date aperture at six o’clock, lending the dial a clean, symmetrical look. Elsewhere, Super-LumiNova-coated indexes and hands ensure optimal legibility, whether on land or beneath the waves. Select models also feature responsibly sourced red gold from Swiss Better Gold Association-accredited mines integrated into the bezel.
One of the most notable additions to the collection is the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater Limited Edition. Created in honour of the surfing legend as he steps back from professional competition, the piece pays tribute to Slater’s deep connection to Hawaii – the place he now calls home. The dial features a tropical foliage motif, inspired by the interplay of light and shadow in a Hawaiian canopy. The caseback is engraved with “One of 500” and “Kelly Slater Limited Edition”, and the watch comes in a special presentation box that mirrors the dial’s floral pattern, complete with a personal note from Slater.
‘The ocean, nature, and the easy-going style I’ve always connected with, that’s what this watch reflects,’ says Slater. Available with a blue rubber mesh strap or stainless-steel bracelet, the watch captures the laid-back spirit of coastal life with the performance and precision expected of Breitling.

Complementing the launch is a summer-ready collaboration with Cutler and Gross, the independent British eyewear brand. Together, they’ve created a capsule collection of sunglasses that echo elements of the watch design – from arrow-tipped temples to Milanese-inspired details as a natural extension of the Superocean Heritage’s aesthetic. The sunglasses will be available at select Breitling boutiques worldwide.
With its refined proportions and new in-house movement, the Superocean Heritage refresh cements the model as a modern icon, recast for a new generation of ocean-loving adventurers.
