A new angle: Maillon de Cartier

Cartier adds an alluring new asymmetric design to its horological repertoire

Asymmetry is coming at us from all angles this season. Spearheading the charge is Cartier’s beautiful and bold new women’s watch, the Maillon de Cartier, which features a bracelet with offset chain-links, aligned on the bias, creating a sense of volume. Pleasingly plump, the look is of smooth, rectangular links that fit together seamlessly while the whole bracelet appears to have been given a neat twist.

The offset motif continues with the asymmetric hexagonal shaped dial with faceted case. ‘Maillon’ is the French for links and this model is a playful display of three-dimensional design, creating articulated components that are as beautiful as they are clever, deconstructing the density of the bracelet and showcasing the elegant geometry of the watch face with bevelled brancards. Powered by a quartz movement, the feminine timepiece includes – in signature Cartier style – a sapphire cabochon-topped crown. The Maillon is available in yellow, rose or white gold, and is available with or without a diamond set bezel, while high jewellery iterations with dazzling diamond-set bracelets complete the collection.
