The luxury marque has released first images of its pure electric vehicle, heralding a bold new chapter in automotive design and performance
Rolls-Royce has unveiled the first images of its highly anticipated all-electric release, Spectre. This ultra-luxury electric super coupé has been several years in the making and customers can expect theirs to be delivered towards the end of next year. Electricity is certainly the future of the automotive industry, but Rolls-Royce co-founder, Charles Stewart Rolls, predicted the advent of the electric vehicle well over a century ago.

‘The electric car is perfectly noiseless and clean,’ Rolls mused all the way back in the year 1900. ‘There is no smell or vibration. They should become very useful when fixed charging stations can be arranged.’
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars refers to this prescient prediction as ‘a prophecy fulfilled’, but promise that Spectre is ‘a Rolls-Royce first and an electric car second’.
This beast of a car is unmistakably a Rolls-Royce but boldly different as the company ushers in an exciting new era, with a pledge to be fully electric by 2030. For starters, it’s the heaviest Rolls-Royce to date at a whopping 2,975kg (700 of which is the battery) and measuring over 5m long and 2m wide. Yet it is also its most aerodynamic release yet, with a drag coefficient of just 0.25 and a sleek two-tone paint job (in a jaunty chartreuse colour) and tapered angles inspired by yacht design. Always striving for perfection, right down to the smallest detail, the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy mascot is an all-new design, the result of some 830 hours of wind-tunnel testing and modelling.

Inside you’ll find the now-iconic Starlight Headliner, which now extends to the doors and features nearly 5,000 individual twinkling lights.
‘Spectre possesses all the qualities that have secured the Rolls-Royce legend,’ commented Torsten Müller-Ötvös, chief executive officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. ‘This incredible motor car, conceived from the very beginning as our first fully-electric model, is silent, powerful and demonstrates how perfectly Rolls-Royce is suited to electrification… This is the start of a bold new chapter for our marque, our extraordinary clients and the luxury industry. For this reason, I believe Spectre is the most perfect product that Rolls-Royce has ever produced.’
