Ruinart combines gastronomy and arts with “Food For Art”

Ruinart launches Food for Art by the chef Adam Byatt

The world’s most famous art fair is coming to town this week, bringing along a series of unique events and collaborations. To celebrate Jeppe Hein’s installation Right Here, Right Now, exhibited at Frieze London, Ruinart, the world’s oldest champagne house, asked British chef Adam Byatt to conceive a unique menu. As part of Carte Blanche – the annual residency hosted by Ruinart in Reims – the Danish artist reinterpreted the codes of the Maison, coming up with an interactive artwork aimed to stimulate and connect all our senses to nature and the four elements.

Food For Art includes a 4-course dining experience designed by Adam Byatt

Following Hein’s approach, Byatt, a true expert in contemporary British cuisine, has curated a menu elevating the natural rhythm of seasonality. Expect vegan caviar, vases of autumnal edible leaves, forest-based vegetables, and seaweed tea. It is followed by a whole autumn truffle baked and served with a plant-based Périgord sauce, raisins and a carpaccio of fresh ceps.

Sitting in between minimalism and conceptualism, Heins summarised his experience in the Champagne region into a sensorial installation including reference to the vineyard and the monumental chalk galleries where the wine takes the time to fully express its soul.

‘Together, we hope to invite people to experience champagne, but also the chef’s food and my art, at a totally new level,’ the artist added. Since its foundation in 1729, Ruinart has leveraged an organic relationship with the world of art – its first artistic collaboration dates to 1896 when Czech Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha was commissioned to design Ruinart advertising posters.
