Villa of the month: Villa Aama

This month, Brummell heads to the well-heeled west coast of Barbados for a glimpse of winter sun in this stunning modern property

The background

At this time of year, many of us are planning Easter and summer breaks, but now is also a great time to start plotting some winter sun – and the dreamy turquoise seas and powder white sands of Barbados are beckoning. Sometimes known as the ‘jewel in the West Indies’, there’s much to love about Barbados. Its capital, Bridgetown, is a Unesco World Heritage Site and offers plenty to see and do, including some great tax-free shopping. As well as stunning beaches and landscapes, with tropical temperatures that hover around the high 20s all year round, Barbados’s culinary scene is one of the best (and most varied) in the Caribbean. The west coast is where you’ll find some of the most prestigious properties on the island, including Sandy Lane, the self-styled ‘most iconic address in the Caribbean’ and one of the finest luxury resorts in the world. Located on Barbados’s pristine Platinum Coast, Sandy Lane is home to three golf courses – two designed by the legendary Tom Fazio – the best beaches on the island and Bajan pop sensation Rihanna, who owns a multi-million-dollar villa at One Sandy Lane.

The villa

Located just a five-minute drive from the private Sandy Lane Owners Beach Club, on the edge of the Sandy Lane Golf Course, is Villa Aama. This spacious, contemporary home sleeps up to 14 people in seven beautifully designed suites set across two floors, making it perfect for large groups and families. Multi-generational travel is still positively booming in a post-pandemic landscape where families are keen to spend time together and indulge in once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Or just put their feet up while sharing childcare duties. Villa Aama is perfect for those wishing to relax and unwind in typically Caribbean fashion, preferably with a rum punch in hand. The immaculate villa is all neutral decor, wooden floors and rattan furnishings with a large cooking and dining space (a private chef and housekeeper come five days a week). Outside is a social dining area with gazebo and daybeds, as well as an outdoor TV room. Better still is the luxurious swimming pool in the shade of swaying palm trees. At Villa Aama, you’re in the perfect spot for exploring Barbados and the well-heeled Sandy Lane neighbourhood, with access to the Pavilion and Beach Club, but we wouldn’t blame you for not wishing to venture too far.

The details

Stays at Villa Aama are priced between $3,650 – $14,500 per night. See sjvillas.co.uk for more information and to book.
