Tag Heuer continues its birthday celebrations with four contemporary additions to the Carrera line

As we reach the halfway point of 2020, Tag Heuer’s celebrations of its 160th anniversary show no sign of slowing down as the watchmaker reveals four new models to join its iconic Carrera line. It follows hot on the heels of special timepieces such as the Montreal Limited Edition, with more to come before the end of the year – click here to subscribe to our Brummell Horology Club newsletter to keep up-to-date on the latest releases.

The latest watches build on the Carrera’s illustrious motor racing past. In 1962, then CEO Jack Heuer heard the story of the Carrera Panamericana, considered to be one of the most dangerous races in the world. It would inspire the name of a high-performance chronograph that would go on to be the timepiece of choice for drivers including Jo Siffert and the Scuderia Ferrari team.

The new designs enhance the quintessential features of the Carrera for a streamlined and contemporary new take. The 44mm case features alternating polished and fine-brushed finishes that lend a sleeker and thinner look. Meanwhile shorter lugs offer improved comfort on the wrist, complemented by a new H-shaped bracelet that is slightly lighter and more ergonomic than previously.

The same attention to detail has been paid to the dial, with a bevelled flange and indexes slanting towards the centre of the dial, drawing the eye to the three subdials. It is presented with three different dial colours rendered with a circular brush finish, available in blue or black with matching ceramic bezel, and olive green with stainless steel bezel. A final timepiece combines a black dial with rose-gold touches, from the crown and push buttons to the ceramic bezel filled with rose-gold-coloured lacquer, a first for the brand. Each watch is powered by the renowned Calibre Heuer 02 movement, constructed in-house at Tag Heuer’s Chevenez manufacture and offering an impressive power reserve of 80 hours.
