Discover Vacheron Constantin’s historic collection of exquisite women’s timepieces at a special exhibition at its Old Bond Street boutique this month
Haute couture and high-end watchmaking have many parallels, each dedicated to exquisite design, executed with expert craftsmanship and incredible attention to detail. Since it was founded in 1755, these qualities have guided the horological creations of Vacheron Constantin, and the esteemed maison will be showcasing some of its finest examples created for women throughout the centuries at a special exhibition at its Old Bond Street boutique running until 9 October.

The watchmaker has brought together these two worlds by highlighting some of its most important and stunning pieces, placing them in their historical context by imagining the elegant outfits that they were once destined to accompany. The inspiring journey stretches back to pieces such as a yellow gold brooch watch dating from the late 19th century. While pocket watches were often hidden from view, this dazzling design, with its blue enamelled caseback featuring an intricate fleur-de-lys motif was a true statement piece, set with gems to add to its precious nature.

Heading into the early 20th century, Art Nouveau influence comes through in a distinctive timepiece featuring curves and arabesques inspired by nature, and equipped with Vacheron Constantin’s innovative slimline movement. Demonstrating the ability of the watchmaker to adapt to the trends of the day, elsewhere the angular, geometric lines of Art Deco are showcased in an example of a ‘surprise’ watch from 1929, a chic travel partner for the jet set of the era.

Sophisticated mid-century style is on display with pieces including an elegant gold jewellery watch from 1959. Meanwhile the exuberance of the Swinging Sixties comes through in an attention-grabbing piece set with blue sapphires, an exuberant finishing touch to a gala outfit. Like all the watchmaker’s timepieces, the true beauty is in the fine details, with the exhibition offering a rare chance to see these pieces up close and in person.
