Time to shine: Breguet Tradition 7035

Breguet’s fine watchmaking and jewellery expertise are on show in equal measure in a sophisticated addition to the Tradition line

The art of skeletonisation places a watchmaker’s craftsmanship under a microscope, with the dial revealing every detail of the calibre within to be admired and scrutinised. Here, impeccable finishing alone is not enough; the entire movement has to be designed not only with precision timekeeping in mind but perfect visual balance and appeal.

Since its foundations in the late 18th century, Breguet has been renowned for the beauty of its movements. Its Tradition line takes inspiration from the early subscription watches, particularly notable for their fully symmetrical calibre. The latest addition to the family, the Tradition 7035, continues this legacy of fine watchmaking, combining it with the manufacture’s considerable expertise in gem-setting to dazzling effect.

Limited to just 88 pieces, the showstopping timepiece features the collection’s signature off-set dial, expressed in a small counter placed at 12 o’clock. Beyond this, the front opens out to completely reveal the complex heart of the watch, which sees the movement set around the central barrel, flanked by carefully placed traditional bridges, wheels, pare-chute, and balance wheel.

Across the movement, Breguet has opted for an impressive snow-setting technique, which juxtaposes different-sized precious jewels in a pattern that leaves as little metal visible as possible. The 18ct gold dial, plate and bridges are illuminated with diamonds, while the retrograde seconds indicator elegantly sweeps with a gradient of rubies and pink sapphires. The bezel is just as radiant, set with a further 68 brilliant-cut diamonds, while the watch comes presented on a chic red leather strap to complement the highlights on the dial.
