The watchmaker revisits a classic motorsport timepiece with a handsome new collection that pays fitting tribute to the original
When Jack Heuer launched the Carrera in 1963, taking its name from the legendary road race the Carrera Panamericana, it was a watch with a clear mission. Building on Tag Heuer’s expertise in chronographs and dashboard instruments, it was designed to meet the needs of both serious drivers and casual motorsport enthusiasts. The result was a clean, uncluttered and elegant timepiece, combining stylish good looks with a practical chronograph on hand to measure time and speed during races.
As the watchmaker continues its 160th birthday celebrations, it once again revisits this iconic timepiece with a new collection of watches that retain all the charm of the original. Reinterpreting the Carrera through a contemporary viewpoint, it has retained the same understated sophistication, designed without a tachymeter in homage to that first model.
The eye instead is drawn to the chronograph subdials, powered by the renowned Calibre Heuer 02. A testament to Tag Heuer’s ongoing innovation, the high-quality movement is entirely made in house at the watchmaker’s Chevenez manufacture and offers an impressive power reserve of 80 hours.
The new watches are presented in four different subtle and distinguished dial options. The classic silver is paired with rose gold plated hands, which along with an anthracite-coloured option is available on a brown alligator strap, lending it a distinctly vintage feel. Blue and black-dialled models come on a streamlined stainless-steel bracelet with fluid H-shaped links, completing the sporty look.
