Longines presents this 1930s-inspired pilot’s watch in sophisticated titanium with a petrol blue dial

Longines watches have accompanied some of history’s great pioneers in their daring adventures across land, sea and air, even worn by Amelia Earhart as she made her ground-breaking flight across the Atlantic. And as the watchmaker’s distinctive winged logo suggests, its history is intricately intertwined with aviation. When it comes to plundering the archives for inspiration for heritage-inspired designs, there’s a wealth of handsome and technical pilot’s watches to choose from.

The Avigation BigEye is one such piece, inspired by a reissue of a much-loved 1930s design, and now available in titanium with a sophisticated petrol blue dial. Its ‘BigEye’ moniker takes its name from the oversized 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, lending the watch an idiosyncratic asymmetric look. It also adds to the legibility of the already clean and clear dial, bolstered by large Arabic numbers and hands coated in SuperLuminova.

It comes powered by the L688 calibre, a column-wheel movement that incorporates a silicon balance-spring for increased accuracy and resistance to magnetic fields. Meanwhile, the watch is fitted with a natural brown leather strap to complete the sophisticated vintage look.
