Certina adds a sophisticated and versatile three-hander to its line-up, delivering on vintage style and precision timekeeping
Last year Certina introduced the DS Chronograph Automatic into its collections, a handsome, heritage-influenced model that draws from the elegant style of the 1940s. The watchmaker is now further building on this vintage appeal with the new DS Powermatic 80, an elegant three-hander with a versatile, pared-back design that lends itself well to everyday wear.
It comes available in classic case options of pure stainless steel, or in a dressier rose-gold or yellow-gold PVD finish. Meanwhile the dials come in an array of colours, including luminous white, shimmering gold, or dark blue, green or brown, with an alluring sunburst effect. Details evoking those of historic timepieces comes through in the sophisticated design, with the classic, slim blued seconds hands adding to the elegant feel.
Despite its heritage look, the watch can be given a contemporary makeover in seconds should you wish thanks to its quick-change strap system. Depending on the occasion, opt for a more formal patent leather choice in light or dark brown, or give it a more casual edge with modern Nato straps in multi-coloured hues.
As with Certina’s other timepieces, you can rely on its precision. This comes in the form of the Powermatic 80 movement, equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as its Nivachron balance spring, protecting the timekeeping against magnetic fields. While it is a departure from the watchmaker’s famous diving watches, it still offers a water resistance of 100 metres, along with a power reserve of up to 80 hours.
