Step change: The Dover by Edward Green

The storied Northampton shoemaker has updated one of its signature styles in lightweight unlined suede to stroll into summer

Heritage shoemaker Edward Green has been making classic, quintessentially British shoes from its small Northampton factory for more than 130 years.

That isn’t to say, however, that the company is stuck in the past. Despite the company’s long history and traditional manufacturing techniques (most of the production is done by hand, as would have been the case back in 1890), Edward Green shoes are very much designed for the modern man.

The Dover is one of Edward Green’s signature styles – a handsome split-toe Derby that the shoemakers have been hand sewing since 1920. The split-toe describes the style of apron used on the shoe and how it is intricately hand sewn using a boar’s bristle needle to the upper, leaving a vertical stitch at the top of the shoe’s toe.

The Dover is available in a range of finishes including an unlined suede version that makes the shoe extra light and soft, making it perfect for spring and summer. The unlined, Italian-suede Dovers are finished with slim rubber soles, making the shoe comfortable, flexible and durable. The style is available in a range of colours including a dark brown mink, classic navy and striking tobacco.

They are the ideal option for comfortable working from home style, for summer office style, and are light and flexible enough to pop in a suitcase for future travels.
