Tissot looks to the 1970s with its new PRX Powermatic 80, combining sports-chic style with precision timekeeping
When it comes to men’s watches, seventies style is here to stay. And in particular, this means the bold, sports-chic aesthetic popularised by the likes of Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe’s Nautilus, characterised by their luxe stainless-steel look and handsome integrated bracelet.
With brands continuing to delve into their archives, there’s now a treasure trove of such designs harking back to the era to choose from, and that suit all price ranges. Tissot’s PRX Powermatic 80 is a case in point, with a trio of new additions that build on the legacy of one of the watchmaker’s classic designs first introduced in 1978.
These versatile timepieces fit comfortably on the wrist thanks to their slender silhouette and tapered case, with a sophisticated style that lends itself effortlessly to all manner of outfits and occasions. This is enhanced further by the embossed chequered pattern on the dial, bringing subtle interest and elegance to the overall look.
The new models come in blue and black-dialled versions, ideal for everyday wear, while a third option combines a classic white dial with a gold-accented bezel for a luxurious finishing touch. Each comes powered by the reliable Powermatic 80 automatic calibre, which is equipped with a Nivachron balance hairspring for improved accuracy, as well as offering a sizeable power reserve of 80 hours.
