Omega marks its ongoing partnership with the America’s Cup with a seaworthy new timepiece

Omega’s long legacy as Official Timekeeper to the Olympics is well known, but its prowess in sporting timing extends beyond this to a competition that even predates the famous games. The America’s Cup has been fiercely contested since 1851, with Omega’s association beginning in 1995, when it supported Team New Zealand – led to victory by legendary sailor Sir Peter Blake. It then took on the role of Official Timekeeper in 2000 and 2003 and is set to return for the 36th edition of the event as it kicks off on 6 March.

It’s an arena in which Omega feels very comfortable, with a rich history creating robust, seafaring timepieces. To celebrate, it is launching a special version of its Seamaster Diver 300M, equipped with all the features necessary to survive the roughest of waters. These include the watchmaker’s exclusive Chrono Lock system that secures the chronograph functions, essential when tracking time on the water. Meanwhile, the pushers have a soft-touch rubber finish, allowing for easy use in wet conditions.

The sporty red-and-white chronograph includes a number of subtle nods to the partnership. The seconds hand is inspired by the shape of a boat hull, while the central seconds chronograph hand takes the form of a miniature America’s Cup trophy on the counterweight. On the case back is an engraving with the event and year in blue lacquer, with the watch coming in a presentation box in the colours of the America’s Cup for that special finishing touch.
