Jaquet Droz updates its sporty Jaquet Droz SW Steel-Ceramic with a daring new colour scheme

The Grande Seconde, with its distinctive figure-of-eight design on the dial, is one of the most instantly recognisable and iconic creations of Jaquet Droz, inspired by the pocket watch created by Pierre Jaquet-Droz in 1784. Its SW line has taken this sophisticated, dressy design and given it a sporty and contemporary twist that retains all the refinement for which the watchmaker is best known.

The new Jaquet Droz SW Steel-Ceramic takes this look a step further, presented in eye-catching red. This daring hue extends from the hand-edged fabric strap to the details on the dial, with the tip of the hour and minute hands and the quarter hour marks coated with colourful Super-Luminova.

As one of the most versatile pieces in Jacquet Droz’s collections, much effort has been made to ensure that the SW Steel-Ceramic is up to the challenges of day-to-day wear. The rugged steel case is covered with a black ceramic bezel, offering great scratch resistance. Meanwhile, the crown is screwed down, making the watch water resistant to 50 metres, protected by a rubber case and with two large claws either side to protect it from shocks.

Similar attention to detail has been paid to the fine aesthetic flourishes. The lugs have been hollowed out to give them a sizable feel on the wrist while retaining its ergonomic and comfortable fit and weight. The dial features delicate 18ct white-gold appliques with a satin finish, providing a striking contrast to the black lacquered dial, while the hands have been hollowed to make it easier to read the hours and minutes beneath.

Turn the watch over to watch the JD2663A-S self-winding movement in action. Likewise, this has been finished to the highest standards, with an 18ct white-gold double barrel and oscillating weight and offering a power reserve of 68 hours.
