Seiko adds two new timepieces to its line, tried and tested by professional divers

Many watchmakers offer robust and waterproof diving watches, but few come with an official seal of approval from those who use such timepieces on a daily basis. Seiko is the only watch brand to achieve recognition from PADI, the professional association of diving instructors, a partnership that has led to a collection of watches more than capable of surviving underwater adventures.

Two new additions to the line continue Seiko’s innovation in this field. They feature the brand’s distinctive design affectionately known as ‘Sumo’, because of its strong and sizable silhouette and large hour marker at 12 o’clock. Seiko launched Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965 and these timepieces follow in its footsteps, offering water resistance of 200m, as well as Lumibrite hour markers and hands to ensure optimal legibility in all conditions.

It comes as a traditional three-hander with date indication (SPB181J1), equipped with an automatic movement offering 70 hours of power reserve. Meanwhile a chronograph version (the SSC795J1) features a solar-powered quartz movement, which charges the watch in both natural and electric light.
