Omega marks its partnership with research foundation Nekton with a new timepiece with a deep connection to the oceans

When it comes to social responsibility, Omega takes its obligation to protecting the Earth and its inhabitants more seriously than most. Its philanthropic activities are far reaching, and as part of the watchmaker’s pledge to making time for the planet it has teamed up with Nekton. The not-for-profit research foundation works with ocean nations to accelerate the scientific exploration and protection of our seas, with its latest mission ‘First Descent’ focused on conservation of the Indian Ocean.

The synergy between the two is a very organic one. Omega’s credentials in seaworthy timepieces is well demonstrated with its famous Seamaster, and the team at Nekton even named their research submersible Seamaster 2, in tribute to the boat skippered by the late yachtsman Sir Peter Blake, a passionate advocate of ocean conservation and close friend of the brand.

The Seamaster was therefore the natural choice for a timepiece to celebrate the partnership. The Nekton Edition features a sleek laser-ablated black ceramic dial finished with polished waves, while the titanium unidirectional rotating bezel features a handy diving scale in positive relief.

The watch includes a number of special touches, such as the caseback, which is embossed with a Nekton submarine medallion. Two models are available, one with a black rubber strap and the other with a dressier stainless-steel bracelet, both powered by Omega’s renowned Master Chronometer Calibre 8806.
