Roman holiday: Brioni Eau de Parfum Éclat

The Roman tailoring brand has launched a sparkling fragrance encapsulating the joy of a bright day or soft-falling night in the Eternal City

Rome: think of the tinkling sounds of Fontana dell’Acqua Paola, the sunshine mirrored in the light marble columns and a gentle breeze coming from the neighbouring Botanical Garden.

A new fragrance, Éclat, which stands for brilliance and brightness in French, aims to express the relaxed spirit of Rome and Brioni’s famously soft approach to contemporary tailoring in a radiant and crisp scent. With artisanal craftsmanship and the use of the finest raw materials deeply rooted in Brioni’s DNA, the fragrance channels these features through sustainably and ethically sourced premium ingredients carefully handpicked by master perfumer Michel Almairac, who is based in the home of fragrance, Grasse, France. ‘In this new fragrance, you can feel both the freshness of the early morning and the reassuring softness of nightfall,’ he says.

A citrusy, woody blend opens the scent: cool pink pepper brings a spicy and lemony note while Somali frankincense adds depth. An unexpected romantic twist follows. Silky Turkish rose petals and musky patchouli from Indonesia make up the heart of the perfume. Lastly, a chord of sandalwood, musk and Ambroxan embrace the body with warm smoothness.

‘Timeless yet current, our new Eau de Parfum Éclat is at the same time sober and sparkling. An intriguing contrast of pureness and electricity,’ explains Norbert Stumpfl, Brioni design director.

Joining the two more classic alternatives that already exist in the Brioni fragrance range, Éclat brings a carefree and easy take on modern elegance, epitomising the new, more leisurewear-focused sartorial codes of the house as written by Stumpfl. However, innovation is nothing new to Brioni. While it has been a highly prestigious Italian menswear label since 1945, it has consistently pushed the boundaries of conventional tailoring, from introducing vivid colours and more fluid garments, to developing innovative silhouettes and working with unusual fabrics. It also lays claim to having staged the first-ever men’s fashion show, in Florence, at the Palazzo Pitti Sala Bianca, in 1952. Truly a pioneer.

Brioni Éclat is available from Brioni stores and selected retailers, priced from £70; brioni.com
