Seiko revives a 1960s classic and a brightens up its collections with a lavender-hued King Seiko

The 1960s ushered in a period of innovation in both technology and style, a revolutionary spirit that trickled all the way down to the watchmaking industry. The King Seiko KSK was a product of the era, with its now strikingly retro design making a statement with its sharp lines and angular details.

Its legacy lives on in the King Seiko KSK 1965 Re-Creation Limited Edition, an almost faithful reproduction of this popular timepiece. Elegant and refined, heritage elements include the combination of a flat dial with faceted, three-dimensional indices and broad, razor-edged hands. The finer details show through in the 12 o’clock marker, which is finished with an intricate pattern that involves making tiny incisions on the surface one by one. A concession to contemporary tastes is its slimmer structure, thanks to its thinner automatic movement.

Proving the versatility of Seiko’s designs, a second new model, the King Seiko Kameido, brings a modern touch to its collections with an eye-catching lavender-hued dial. Its striking, whimsical colour is inspired by the wisteria planted at Japan’s Kameido Tenjin Shrine. During April and May, these beautiful flowers are lit up at night, a spectacular sight that brings a unique purple glow to the picturesque gardens.
