These days every Formula 1 team and driver seems to have a watch tie in, but it was TAG Heuer that played an essential role in connecting the two worlds. It was only natural considering the watchmaker’s deep motoring racing heritage, brought into a high-octane new dimension when former CEO Jack Heuer initiated the first Formula 1 sponsorship agreement with Swiss star Jo Siffert in 1968. This was bolstered further by the launch of the Formula 1 line in 1986, an enduring part of TAG Heuer’s collections. Meanwhile 2016 saw it team up with the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, a partnership that continues today. 

This heritage is being celebrated in fittingly bold style with a new addition to the Formula 1 watch family that nods to the daring nature of the sport and the Red Bull team. The latter has inspired the eye-catching colour scheme, which sees a background of deep blue on the dial and bezel contrasted with vibrant touches of yellow and red across the minute chronograph counter, 1/10th second counter and central chronograph second hand.

Formula 1 fans will also find much pleasure in the smaller details, designed to evoke fast-paced moments on the track. These include Arabic numerals in a graphic type that recalls those seen on racing car speedometers, while the lines positioned above “5” and “7” evoke the starting line on the track. The ergonomic round pushers also deliver on function and style, with red detailing used to highlight the chronograph start button at 2 o’clock. Speaking to the versatility of this rugged timepiece, it comes presented with two strap variations that each lend a different feel, including a sophisticated stainless steel as well as a sporty blue rubber option.
