Cartier’s Santos model has been a classic design of the maison ever since Louis Cartier created it in 1904 for his friend, pioneer of aviation Alberto Santos-Dumont.

Perpetuating the spirit, style and hunger for progress of men who change the world, after Santos-Dumont met Louis Cartier in 1900, the aviator complained of his difficulty checking the time on his pocket watch while flying. Four years later Louis Cartier revolutionised watchmaking by inventing the first purpose-designed modern wristwatch for Santos-Dumont.

In updating the Santos timepiece for 2020, the Santos-Dumont XL watch has been enhanced in an extra-large size with a case measuring 46.6 x 33.9mm, which, in contrast to previous models, signifies a change of scale. On the wrist the dial is wide, generous and taut – retaining a true focus on style and essential elements.

The watch features a contoured case, taut lines and unadorned elegance, houses a 430 MC mechanical movement with manual winding, and is available in 18ct pink gold, 18ct pink gold and steel, or steel versions.
