Nomos pays tribute to the watchmaking heritage of Glashütte with a trio of new timepieces

The small, sleepy town of Glashütte is considered the birthplace of German watchmaking, with a history dating back to 1845 when the first craftspeople began to establish themselves in the area. To this day, its streets are lined with some of the finest watch manufactures, with the industry playing an essential role in the local economy.

Launched in 1990, just two months after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Nomos Glashütte is a relative newcomer to the industry but over the past three decades has left its own indelible stamp on the town’s rich legacy. Along with its innovative, in-house watchmaking, the brand has carved out its own unique visual identity, taking inspiration from the minimalist, clean lines of the Bauhaus school of design.

The watchmaker is celebrating 175 years of Glashütte watchmaking with a set of three timepieces that pay fitting tribute to tradition while retaining its signature, contemporary aesthetic. Taking the Ludwig – one of Nomos’ more classic models – as its base, it has added subtle stylistic touches to lend an elegant and sophisticated feel. It features a polished, enamel-white dial, recalling those of pocket watches. Meanwhile, the hands, which have been tempered blue according to Glashütte tradition, have been rounded to give them a more slender look.

The three versions, each limited to 175 pieces, include a hand-wound version driven by the Nomos Alpha calibre. The remaining two – the Ludwig Neomatik 39 and Ludwig Neomatik 41 Date – are equipped with the highly precise DUW 3001 and DUW 6101, which like all Nomos movements are designed and built in house and finished to the highest standards.
