Off the wall: Junghans

Junghans Max Bill watches were first produced in 1961 and today’s iteration remains largely unchanged from the original

Junghans was founded in the Black Forest town of Schramberg, Germany, in 1861, where its watches are still produced today. In 1956, artist and Bauhaus pupil Max Bill designed the Max Bill kitchen wall clock, and its logical dial layout was incorporated into the design of the first wristwatches he created for Junghans in 1961.

Placing importance on utility and beauty, Junghans Max Bill watches have become classics, and they are still produced today, largely unchanged from the original models. The latest version is available in automatic (38mm), quartz (38mm) and women’s (32.7mm) variations, each with matt, silver-plated dials in a soft grey finish, and dial and hand markings with environmentally friendly Superluminova.

This month, Brummell took a tour of @60curzon, a prestigious new luxury apartment block in the heart of Mayfair.

Not only is 60 Curzon located in one of the finest postcodes in the capital, but the building itself is a celebrated piece of architecture as the only European residential building designed by the late, great Thierry Despont.

And long before 60 Curzon took shape, it was home to the storied Mirabelle restaurant, which entertained the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Winston Churchill back in the day.

This culinary legacy is set to continue with the exciting news that 60 Curzon will welcome Korean restaurant Kiji in 2026 – which is set to be one of the biggest openings in London next year.
