How the Ford and Designworks’ cyclist Emoji Jacket signals emotions to fellow road users

Ford, in partnership with Designworks, has created something that feels long overdue: the ‘Emoji Jacket’. Essentially a large LED panel on the back of a cyclist’s jacket that brightly displays their emotions and lets their sworn enemy – motorists – know exactly how they are feeling without needing to take their hands (or fingers) off the handlebars. While the sight of a smiley face will be cheering to fellow man after a courteous interaction on the road, the mind boggles as to what could be the range of displays to register pure displeasure… especially when the independent programmers get their hands on the system.
