Rado presents its rugged and robust Captain Cook in high-tech ceramic for the first time

Rado is renowned for its pioneering approach to design, particularly in the realm of revolutionary materials. High-tech ceramic has become one of the hallmarks of the watchmaker, and it is now presenting one of its core models, the Captain Cook, in the hardwearing substance for the first time.

The new models lean on some of Rado’s other signature innovations, notably its monobloc case construction whose robust nature is bolstered by the highly scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic qualities of the material. Powering the watch is the automatic Rado calibre R734, which offers a power reserve of 80 hours and comes equipped with a Nivachron hairspring that protects the timekeeping from magnetic fields.

The watches come in four stylish options: black with a contrasting rose-gold coloured bezel, a blue-hued version and sleek black with a stainless-steel bezel and choice of ceramic or rubber strap. All come with the rugged features that define this watch designed for modern-day adventurers. These include the highly legible dial complete with markers and chunky arrow hands filled with Super-LumiNova, while it also has a considerable water resistance of 300 metres.

Available from April, £3,345; rado.com
