Making waves

Panerai, co-sponsor of the Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team at the upcoming 37th America’s Cup, has introduced a new summer collection of yachting-inspired wristwear

As the official sponsor of the Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team, it’s only fitting that Panerai’s latest series of timepieces pays homage to the values and design codes of the yachting world.

Expanding on its iconic Luminor and Luminor Due series, the new Luna Rossa summer collection introduces five new watches; two Luminor Quaranta models, two Luminor Due references, and a Luminor Chrono time-teller.

‘These timepieces embody the shared legacy of Panerai and the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team, and we are honoured that our official sponsor has once again found inspiration from our bond with the sea,’ says Max Sirena, team director and skipper of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. ‘With their unmistakable design and cutting-edge functionality, these watches will serve as our indispensable companions throughout our journey towards success in the 37th America’s Cup.’

First off is the new Luminor Quaranta. A new steel DLC-built PAM01408, and a PAM01404 BiTempo has been introduced, both geared with sturdy 40mm case sizes and decorated with sunray brushed blue dials and hands tipped in red – the official shades of Luna Rossa.

Showcasing Panerai’s technical savoir-faire, an in-house P.900 automatic calibre powers the new Luminor Due models, supplying a power reserve of up to three days. Refreshingly contemporary, the PAM01378, is finished in a 38mm case size and accompanied by a white Saffiano calf leather strap. Meanwhile, the PAM01381 measures 42mm in polished steel, complete with a bi-material grey strap of rubber and textile.

For a sportier look, the Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono Carbotech PAM01519 comes in a lightweight 44mm carbon case. It’s complete with a deep-blue sunray dial with a matching bezel, and a hollowed chronograph minutes counter and small seconds counter on the watch face.

Speaking on this latest launch, Panerai CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué comments: ‘Our collaboration with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team represents the perfect union of two brands that share the same spirit of innovation, passion for excellence, and love for the sea. Through our common values, we aim to inspire and empower contemporary navigators, pushing boundaries and exceeding limits in pursuit of their dreams.’
