The German watchmaker adds a handsome perpetual calendar to its Lange 1 line

Twenty years ago, A. Lange & Söhne released the Langematik Perpetual, a classic and refined expression of a perpetual calendar. And while the complication has appeared in various models from the watchmaker in the decades since, paired with other functions such as chronographs and tourbillons, it hasn’t again been presented in its purest form – until now.

The useful complication gets its outing in the brand’s Lange 1, which has become a modern classic thanks to its distinctive off-set dial that combines innovative design with a traditional sensibility. The Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar has been painstakingly rethought to include its various displays in a manner that retains this pared-back and clean aesthetic, showcasing the ingenuity of A. Lange & Söhne’s engineers.

It sees the month indicated on a ring at the periphery of the dial, while the central space includes a retrograde day-of-the-week display, leap-year indication and the signature Lange outsize date. Powered by the in-house calibre L021.3, once properly set it can reliably indicate each month until the year 2100. Complementing this is the moon-phase display with integrated day/night indicator, so precise that it takes 122.6 years before a correction by one day is needed.

The handsome design comes in two versions, pink gold with a grey solid-silver dial, along with a model in white gold with a solid pink-gold dial, limited to just 150 pieces. Each comes finished with colour-coordinated hands and appliques and presented on leather straps in dark brown and red brown respectively.
