TAG Heuer pays tribute to legendary racing driver Ayrton Senna with a road-worthy new automatic timepiece
Following hot on the heels of a quartz timepiece in tribute to Ayrton Senna, TAG Heuer has released another special edition that honours the legendary racing driver. This time, it’s decked out in an eye-catching red, and powered by the watchmaker’s precise automatic Calibre 16 movement.
Senna was a TAG Heuer ambassador starting in 1988, and this latest model continues this legacy with a fitting nod to one of the first of its timepieces he wore. This reference to the original is seen in the bold choice of colour, which makes a statement with highlights across the pushers, crown and dial, as well as the driver’s signature double “S” motif, all rendered in red.
This is paired with a sleek anthracite sunray dial and monochromatic colour scheme. This includes white Super-LumiNova on the hands and indices, improving legibility whatever the conditions on the track. Speaking to its high-octane origins, it’s also fitted with a hard-wearing ceramic bezel with the number 400 engraved, in reference to the 400km/h speed that has never quite been reached in Formula 1.
The strap similarly draws its design from Senna’s first chronograph, based on the famous S/EL bracelet with its “S”-shaped links. Stylish and practical, it is highly shock-resistant and even comes with an extension to comfortably fit over the sleeve of a racing suit.
