Introducing Brummell Winter 2024

We are pleased to announce the launch of Brummell winter 2024. This issue focuses on change makers who often challenge the order of things by pioneering new ways of thinking and doing

In a turbulent world, it’s reassuring to realise that, despite hostilities and misinformation, dictators and multi-billion-pound deficits, there are still people out there who are positive change makers, often challenging the status quo on behalf of others, or initiating different ways of thinking.

One of these is Marine Tanguy, who is urging people everywhere to reclaim control of their visual narrative in a world where she believes overconsumption of information and imagery has become a threat to our collective wellbeing. In this issue, we talk with the tireless campaigner about coping with this visual deluge as she explains the need for “visual literacy”. Also unlocking conversations is the work of reportage photographers who focus on telling stories and making political and cultural statements through their lenses. Keeping the flame of quality photojournalism alive are the Leica Oskar Barnack Awards, which support those turning documentary photography from reactive impulse to a considered art, and we explore the work of the winners.

Talking of champions, we’re proud to announce our annual listing of Brummell’s Inspirational Women in the City. Each has made groundbreaking efforts to spearhead positive change in whatever they are involved with; they pioneer new ways of working and thinking while encouraging others to do similarly. Thought leaders in their respective fields, these women drive significant institutional change and blaze a trail in the pursuit of gender equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and beyond. We thank our panel of three distinguished judges, who had a tough job selecting from an impressive longlist, and we salute those overachievers who made the cut.

We are also not forgetting that festive time is approaching and offer a sleighful of gifting inspiration, from fabulous jewellery to bags, pens, evening wear, artisan-made shoes, bespoke T-shirts and made-to-measure suits, plus epicurean treats, whether for yourself as sybaritic indulgence or for loved ones. Then let’s tune in to this season of goodwill and do our bit, however small, to help make the world a tad better. Here’s hoping you give as good as you get this holiday season and have a peaceful and altruistic New Year.
