Zenith ramps up its Defy family with a new collection of bold timepieces equipped with its high-frequency timekeeping

The Defy collection has long housed some of Zenith’s most inventive and eye-catching creations. With the announcement of Defy Extreme, it is taking this rugged range up a notch with a new range of models that deliver both on big, bold style and the watchmaker’s trademark precision, high-frequency timekeeping.

The aesthetic of the collection draws from the contemporary edge of the current models and dials up the drama. They come presented in a large 45mm case with shaper lines and more pronounced edges, bulked up further with the addition of new components protecting the pushers and crown that speak to the robust nature of the watch. Enhancing the architectural quality of the design further is a 12-sided ring placed under the bezel, available in colours such as rose gold and black that provide a striking contrast against the micro blasted titanium case.

The dial itself has been carefully balanced to allow clear view of the El Primero calibre at the heart of the watch, which features two escapements beating at 36’000 VpH for the timekeeping and an impressive 360’000 for VpH for the chronograph. These are clearly displayed on the slightly overlapping chronograph counters, while the legibility is dialed up further with extra-large hour hands filled with SuperLuminova.

Zenith has positioned this new release as a chronograph ready for all terrains, and this comes through not only in its 200-metre water resistance but the versatile choice of straps, able to be quickly switched through its strap-change mechanism. As well as the stylish metal bracelet (in micro blasted or polished and satin brushed titanium), there is a practical rubber strap, we well as a sturdy velcro option, a first for Zenith.
