Panerai unveils a limited-edition Luminor Marina in high-tech and robust Platinumtech

With the now-iconic Luminor, Panerai introduced a new and innovative way of illuminating a watch dial that superseded the dangerous radium-based pastes that were previously standard practice. And more than seven decades on, the watchmaker continues to use this timepiece as a vessel to showcase its ongoing commitment to pioneering research and development.

This latest iteration takes the already robust and hard-wearing diver’s watch and presents it in tough Platinumtech. This alloy is harder than traditional platinum, reformulated and tested in Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee, a creative hub bringing together the expertise of its top watchmakers and engineers. However, the greater resistance that the material lends the watch also means it is more difficult to work with, requiring a highly specialised manual polishing process to achieve the meticulous finish.

Similar levels of engineering have gone into the watch’s movement, the self-winding calibre P.9010. Developed in-house at Panerai’s Neuchâtel manufacture, it comes equipped with a rapid adjustment system, allowing the wearer to easily change the hour hand forwards or backwards independently of the minute hand.

Limited to just 70 pieces, the Platinumtech Luminor Marina is available exclusively through the brand’s boutiques. And like other of Panerai’s recent special editions celebrating the Luminor’s anniversary, it comes with an impressive 70-year warranty, guaranteeing the timepiece will keep ticking for at least another generation to come.

This month, Brummell took a tour of @60curzon, a prestigious new luxury apartment block in the heart of Mayfair.

Not only is 60 Curzon located in one of the finest postcodes in the capital, but the building itself is a celebrated piece of architecture as the only European residential building designed by the late, great Thierry Despont.

And long before 60 Curzon took shape, it was home to the storied Mirabelle restaurant, which entertained the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Winston Churchill back in the day.

This culinary legacy is set to continue with the exciting news that 60 Curzon will welcome Korean restaurant Kiji in 2026 – which is set to be one of the biggest openings in London next year.
