After discontinuing one of their greats last year, Mercedes Benz is hitting back with a new, improved version – of the same model

Having remained in continuous production, more or less unchanged since 1979, the G-Class SUV was finally put out to pasture last year.

For 2018, Mercedes has revealed a brand new model and… it’s exactly the same. Well, at least to the untrained eye. Underneath is millions of pounds worth of development and a state-of-the-art chassis to house the familiar boxy body.

In a flash of modern exuberance, the dashboard has all the latest tech. But reassuringly the three old locking diff switches remain. Well, if it ain’t broke…
