Feminine touch: Catherine Walker

Couture house Catherine Walker makes each tailored piece from start to finish in its Chelsea atelier

Couture house Catherine Walker was founded by the late Catherine Walker and her husband Said Cyrus in 1977, and it has been crafting beautiful bespoke and made-to-measure tailored garments for women since 1983. Initially, patterns were sewn by tailors on Savile Row, but now the company employs 30 highly-skilled craftspeople in its Chelsea atelier, where each tailored piece is made from start to finish.

‘I have always found that the combination of the hard, precise structure of men’s tailoring, and the gentle female form is an area of design that I can include in every collection,’ says Cyrus. ‘Our clothes are individually made so we can produce a fit that is not only perfect on the client, but also true to the design.’
