Hublot’s partnership with designer Samuel Ross continues with their first timepiece

Hublot has had a reputation for innovative watchmaking ever since its inception, so this latest collaboration, to reimagine the Big Bang Tourbillon timepiece with industry-leading creative director Samuel Ross, is a perfect match. Now in its third year, the house’s partnership with the British designer behind A-Cold-Wall* began in 2019 when he was awarded the Hublot Design Prize and continued with a sculpture that showcased Ross’ appreciation for man-made and natural materials by contrasting granite and steel.

He has applied the same concept to the Big Bang Tourbillon, which combines a hexagonal titanium case with a unique honeycomb mesh structure – a key feature in many natural forms – through the strap and openworked dial. The brand describes it as a ‘wearable sculpture’, and though it certainly makes a statement, the 44mm size, lightweight titanium material and rubber strap mean it’s still entirely wearable and comfortable. The striking bright orange shade, meanwhile, is selected for its optimistic and energetic properties, and really pops against the contrasting satin-polished grey titanium across the case and strap.

Inside, there is the house’s signature automatic HUB6035 tourbillon movement, which offers a 72-hour power reserve and can be viewed from every angle thanks to the watch’s openworked style. Only 50 of this special edition will ever be produced, and each will be denoted through a numbered engraving on the caseback.
