Brummell Gift Guide 2025: for the epicurean

’Tis the season to overindulge. Treat your favourite foodie this holiday season with our selection of culinary bests

BIRLEY BAKERY X THE MACALLAN PANETTONE

London- and New York-based Birley Bakery is famed for its luxury artisan cakes and French-inspired delicacies. However, the pâtisserie’s delicious new twist on the classic Italian panettone, infused with The Macallan whisky and studded with plump raisins, has surpassed all expectations. Crafted with rich whey butter, dark egg yolks and fragrant Tahitian vanilla for an indulgent, melt-in-the-mouth experience, this extra-special panettone makes a perfect gift for anyone with a sweet tooth this Christmas.

BUBALA: MIDDLE EASTERN-INSPIRED VEGETARIAN RECIPES TO SHARE

When it comes to mezze, Bubala really does know best. The pop-up, which has since permanently expanded to the corners of Soho, King’s Cross and Spitalfields, has attracted acclaim for its signature Middle Eastern menu – and has now released its debut vegetarian cookbook. Bubala is perfect for the foodie whose death-row meal is a little bit of this and a little bit of that; recipes include the outfit’s burnt butter hummus and halloumi with black seed honey, which has a smoky sumptuousness that subdues any carnivore inclinations.

£21.99; Waterstones

ST JOHN FERGRONI

The St John lore runs strong in London, but it’s not a restaurant for faint-hearted foodies; meals here often involve offal and bone marrow. And, as fans will know, negronis. However, there are actually two negronis on offer: a classic, and an off-menu option known as a “Fergroni”, which is served the way co-founder Fergus drinks it. Previously only ordered by those in the know, St John has now made the Fergroni available for all – the perfect find for your favourite foodie.

THE SECRET SMOKEHOUSE GIFT BOXES

The Secret Smokehouse may supply to the likes of The Ritz and Fortnum & Mason, but this cult B Corp-certified smokehouse – the first of its kind in the world – is on every trendy Londoner’s radar. So, what could be better than a specially curated gift box from the company? There’s a choice of different options, from Old School (£38.99, featuring oak-smoked kippers and haddock) to Christmas Family Breakfast (£71.99). The unisex-branded sweaters also make excellent gifts for true East London foodies.

DELUXE PRAWN ON THE LAWN HAMPER

I mean, who doesn’t want a pink pair of beers emblazoned with U OK HUN? That’s just part of the rose-tinted hamper from Padstow (and now Islington) seafood restaurant, Prawn on the Lawn. Gifting this is akin to saying ‘I know what’s hot in London’s food scene’; the hamper contains a bottle of branded rosé, a signed Fish and Seafood to Share cookbook, a pair of lagers and a striped and (literally) scalloped linen shirt. One for (sea) foodies.

ORIGIN COFFEE ROASTING WORKSHOP

This one’s for all the coffee-lovers out there. You know, the people who turn their nose up at instant sachets (guilty) and have actual opinions about single-origin beans. That person would surely appreciate a two-hour session with Origin Coffee, which takes them on a coffee journey from green bean to brew via an exploration of different roast profiles. They’ll also learn about how time, temperature and technique all impact the final cup of joe – and will leave with their own bespoke batch.

LOUIS XIII LIGHT OF TIME DINNER PLATES

For those who would appreciate some timeless French artistry at their dinner table, look no further than “Art de la Table”, a collection of luxe tableware by prestige cognac house Louis XIII. Just like the cognac itself, each lovingly handcrafted piece, made by artisans at revered Limoges porcelain maker JL Coquet, is a dedication to craft, terroir and ritual. This limited-edition “Light of Time” dinner plate features light-catching facets that let light through, representing the light and shadow of the cellars, while the hand-painted copper rim pays homage to the warm copper hue of the cognac pot stills.

DISHOOM CHAI CAP

‘Drink chai’ isn’t so much an invitation as it is an instruction at Dishoom, the beloved Bombay café-inspired restaurant chain known for its bottomless chai (and addictive black dahl). It’s also the slogan embroidered across this bold red cap from Dishoom’s latest merch drop – the ideal gift for the dahl-lover in your life.

EXMOOR CAVIAR X LANSON LE BLACK CRÉATION GIFT SET

This pairing promises a seductive start to Christmas Day, albeit in a slightly 1970s version (think Bond in a ski chalet with a deadly but gorgeous Russian spy). The Devon-based sturgeon farmers and importer of the black pearls, Exmoor Caviar, has joined forces with Champagne Lanson to provide a box with 30g of Oscietra caviar, a caviar key to open it carefully, a mother-of-pearl spoon (metal can spoil the flavour), and a 75ml bottle of Lanson Le Black Création with two flutes. £100; exmoorcaviar.com

CHRISTMAS REINDEER BY CAKES & BUBBLES

You can’t turn up at your parents’ house empty-handed at Christmas. But instead of turning up with the prerequisite mince pies or Christmas pudding, drop by Cakes & Bubbles at Hotel Café Royal and pick up a Christmas reindeer instead. The huge chocolate egg body is crafted from impossibly rich Royal Cocoa chocolate and a spiced almond praline filling, finished with antlers, big eyes and a fondant red nose – so cute you almost feel bad breaking it apart to eat it. £40; hotelcaferoyal.com
