A day in the life: Gieves & Hawkes

Tailoring stalwart Gieves & Hawkes nods to British icons in its latest campaign

On a chilly January day in 1969, The Beatles made history when they performed what would be their final live gig together on the roof of Apple Corps in Central London. This Grade-II listed building is one of the capital’s many treasured landmarks, with a unique and rich history. It also happens to be located just two doors down from No.1 Savile Row, the most prestigious address in British tailoring and home of Gieves & Hawkes.

Drawing on this extraordinary slice of rock ‘n’ roll history, Gieves & Hawkes creative director Daniel Kearns took to the famous rooftop to photograph the brand’s autumn/winter 2020 campaign. A lot has changed in the five decades since the Fab Four came together for their impromptu performance, but the iconic views from No.3 Savile Row remain the same.

The photoshoot captures the panoramic, rain-soaked beauty of London, and is shot in a style that pays homage to the 007 film Skyfall. As for the collection itself, a classic yet contemporary aesthetic underpins the AW20 Gieves & Hawkes mood. Timeless two-piece suits are teamed with key statement outerwear styles in padded modern fabrics, tweed-effect printed nylon, clean modern leather and luscious cashmere-blend top coats.
