Few pieces of menswear are as refined as the lightweight jacket. Easy to throw on at a moment’s notice, and perfect for wearing over a simple T-shirt with chinos or jeans, it’s a spring/summer staple. This has been the case for decades.

Whether on screen, on stage, behind the wheel of a classic car or jet-setting around the globe, the world’s best-dressed men have long relied upon lightweight jackets as their go-to pieces. Think of Alain Delon slinging his over his shoulder when looking around a local market in Plein Soleil, or Robert Redford on horseback in his trucker jacket in The American West.

Knowing the merits of the perfect lightweight jacket, Luca Faloni has been hard at work on refining its own outerwear category in recent seasons. Now complete, it consists of a series of classic yet contemporary designs, handmade in Italy from the finest fabrics sourced around the country.

A proudly Italian brand, Luca Faloni makes use of its mother country’s fine-tailoring heritage, combining skilled artisanship with modern design details and versatile, easy-to-wear cuts.

These are the kind of jackets you could build a wardrobe around, working as adaptable staples that can be worn in both smart and casual contexts.

Having established its name in exceptional knitwear, made from cashmere and knitted in Italy, Luca Faloni’s expanded range now encompasses outerwear as well as tailoring. There are gilets alongside overshirts, bombers, Harringtons and travel jackets, all of which are made at the firm’s workshops in Veneto, Tuscany and other trusted sites across the northern part of the country.

‘For me, “Made in Italy” is about how things are crafted, not just where they come from,’ says Luca Faloni. ‘It’s about working with people who have been doing the same thing for a long time and understanding materials in a very instinctive way.

That relationship is important, because it allows us to create products with a certain level of care and consistency that would be difficult to achieve otherwise. It’s not something you can replicate quickly.’

A key piece of the collection, the travel bomber stands out. Cut in a classic, tailored fit, which finishes at the waist for an easy, effortless look, it comes complete with twin flap chest pockets.

These are ideal for storing essentials through airport security, and will keep your favourite sunglasses safe in between long stints behind the wheel. With a double zip and funnel neck, it takes inspiration from mid-century leisurewear and can be dressed up or down with ease.

Elsewhere, there are overshirts cut from soft goatskin suede and pure cashmere, an opulent alternative to cotton or moleskin workwear. Sportier, more technical gilets work as perfect middle layers, while a luxurious Harrington jacket is a more elevated take on the Ivy League classic. Each piece is as stylish as it is versatile.

I tend to think about outerwear in a very practical way,’ says Faloni. ‘It should work across different situations without feeling too specific. These are pieces that can be worn during the week in the city, but also when travelling or over the weekend. The idea is that you don’t need to think too much about it; it simply fits into your routine and adapts to different moments.’

Typical of Luca Faloni, each piece has been made to the highest quality and designed to last, with innovative fabric blends, cashmere linings and durable hardware engineered to be used for life.

Designed as part of the brand’s “slow luxury” philosophy, they are the antithesis of disposable fashion. Heirloom pieces built for a life well used, they are light, breathable and functional, the kind of jackets you can rely on, whether on a cinematic adventure of your own or just relaxing in the garden.
