Luxury lighting brand Occhio unveils a striking, refreshingly modern reinterpretation of the chandelier

When you’re next strolling down a street lined with restaurants, test the following hypothesis: the biggest crowds are drawn neither to the most tempting aromas nor to the most welcoming maître d’, but rather to the nicest lighting. Naturally, we gravitate towards places with a warm, relaxing ambience, while avoiding clinical, white-tinged lighting. Like salt in a meal, lighting can serve either to ruin or enhance. The Lunanova chandelier from Occhio elegantly delivers the latter.

Since he founded the company in 1999, designer Axel Meise has sought to create a holistic, versatile system that bathes a variety of spaces in the light of pure luxury; and the brand’s first chandelier does just that. Showcased at Milan Design Week in April, the Lunanova marks a venture into new territory for the German lighting company. Aesthetically pleasing and astoundingly functional, it brings spaces to life and makes them look their best.

This modern reinterpretation is composed of dark chrome mirrored glass spheres in differing sizes which heighten the Lunanova’s scintillating effects. Fireballs floating inside the spheres appear to eclipse them, generating glare-free light that can be controlled for mesmerising effects, including “Supernova” ones. As on a film set, this interactive art installation allows you to direct streams of light onto particular parts of a space and make them pop.

The Lunanova is the latest in a range of products in the Occhio portfolio, each a reflection of the brand’s longstanding ethos centred around the notion of “joy of use”, as well as opening new possibilities when it comes to illuminating spaces.
