Grand Seiko captures the magic of the night sky over its native Japan in a new limited-edition Spring Drive watch, the 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Edition SBGY009

As the temperatures soar this week, Grand Seiko looks to a more calm and cooling natural phenomenon to inspire its latest take on its Spring Drive watch. Its deep-blue dial captures the scene of the night sky over the Shinshu mountains in Japan, which tower over the workshops where these timepieces are created. The delicate sunray effect plays with the light to almost create a sparkle reminiscent of that the moon casts over the picturesque landscape.

Each element has been harmoniously composed to create a balanced and elegant aesthetic, right down to the smallest details. This includes the minute and seconds hands, slightly curved to improve the reading of the time. The latter, which stands out in gold, has a particular charm thanks to its seamlessly smooth sweeping motion, not often seen in mechanical watches.

This limited edition of 1,500 carries on the watchmaker’s celebration of the 55th anniversary of the 44GS, a timepiece that laid the foundation for much of its timekeeping and design today. At its heart is the manual-wind Spring Drive Caliber 9R31, its innovative construction and slim silhouette enabling the svelte and sophisticated final look of the watch.
