Savour an unconventional explosion of flavours while enjoying a magnificent view of the most picturesque courtyard in Westminster
The background
TH@51 is the newly launched resto-bar at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences offering a multicultural yet creative diner concept, as stated by general manager Mehrnavaz Avari. Aiming to embrace the diversified culinary influences that converge in the British capital, TH@51 caters to global-minded diners who aren’t afraid to explore all-mixed territories.
The space
When approaching the undisturbed patio where the restaurant is nestled, the calming sound of a bubbling fountain makes you forget this is one of the busiest postcodes in London. A hidden oasis, this leafy garden matches the multicoloured tiles, which decorate the five-star hotel complex, including the former home of Lords and Ladies of the Royal Court. And the interior is no less exciting. After crossing the intimate yet vibrant bar area, the eyes are on the open kitchen and its theatrical grill. The subtle lighting and the soft colour palette of the interiors ensures warmth and intimacy. The atmosphere cannot get more romantic when seating in the glass dining room with wonderful views of the garden illuminated at night.

The menu
TH@51 blends Asian-inspired influences with popular Western dishes, serving a unique and immensely flavourful menu. We started our journey flying from Italy to India with a burrata served on a bed of crispy sev with fried kale, mint and tamarind chutney, and onion tomato salsa. Unexpected and impactful. Next came the desi scotch egg, an exotic take on one of Scotland’s favourites. The twist is the crispy Mumbai spiced lamb mince beautifully matched by curried mayo and mango chutney.
It followed a juicy Korean roast: seated on buttered kale, a baby chicken was paired with Korean smoked peppers and sticky honey sesame potatoes. From the very beginning, it is clear the desire to celebrate the finest ingredients and traditions from all over the world with a unique touch, as Sujoy Gupta, the executive head chef later confirmed in a brief chat with us.
Elsewhere, we couldn’t resist trying one of the intriguing experiential cocktails. The highly curated drink menu includes ingredients that want to connect guests to nature. From the Himalayan mountains to the desert, each drink is associated with a particular ecosystem. My favourite? Copper Garden is a fresh and citrusy combination of gin, lemongrass, and rhubarb.
The bill
A three-course meal for two with cocktails is around £120.
The verdict
If you are keen on a menu with surprising yet playful plot twists, TH@51 won’t disappoint. Expect a dining experience with flavour-packed recipes, electrifying beverages and a sociable ambient.
